The Local Area

We are in a beautiful country spot, off a no through road, to all appearances isolated and remote – but don’t be deceived, as we are only a short drive away from the historic border town of Oswestry. There is plentiful superb walking in the local area – the Old Racecourse with its spectacular county views, Offas Dyke and the local Iron Age Hill Fort to name but a small ‘on the doorstep’ selection.

Further afield we have National Trust gems of Chirk Castle, Powis Castle and Erddig House. There are steam railways at Llangollen and Welshpool, and of course the spectacular countryside of the Snowdonia National Park is just round the corner – with great welsh beaches and castles just a little further on.

Equally we are Ideally located to visit Shropshire and the local historic towns of Chester and Shrewsbury. And we have great access to the international connections of Manchester and Liverpool. The local rail station of Gobowen is a short hop, and from there you can be in Chester, Shrewsbury or Birmingham within the hour.

Locally there are a number of good restaurants and pubs – Our personal favourites are the Cross Keys in Selatynn, ‘The Indian restaurant at Henlle Heights, and the The Hand in Llanarmon DC.

The drive to ‘The Hand’ in Llarnarmon is particularly spectacular and a great way of getting a quick taste of the gorgeous local scenery – though be prepared for challenging narrow lanes!
